1972 Lotus Elan Sprint, This is a beautiful Lotus Elan Sprint drophead in its original shade of Pistachio, code LO13. According to the website lotuselansprint.com, there were only 164 US spec (type K) Sprints built. The car was originally a California and Arizona car and was brought to the midwest only in the last few years. During that time, it was restored to high-level driver condition. It draws much attention and many compliments wherever it goes. I have receipts for many thousands of dollars substantiating all work.
BODY:IMHO. Convertible top in excellent shape and fits very well. There are two small cuts in the rear window, apparently from improper storage. They don’t leak when I wash the car. The windshield is a brand new Triplex unit. I replaced it due to some wiper scratches and chips on the old one. Side windows are in very good shape.
INTERIOR: Original Colin Chapman “autographed” steering wheel is in very good condition. Beautiful Madera Concepts dash in the original pattern and finish. Seats, carpets, and door panels were nicely redone. There is a small mark on the passenger seat cushion which was on the car when I got it. I’ve included it in the pictures
ENGINE: Engine and Stromberg carbs, and cylinder head were rebuilt this year by a local shop which has been in business for over 40 years and works on cars ranging from MGs to Ferraris. I’ve done business with them for over 15 years. This is a very strong running car. Block is not original to the car. The number indicates it is from an Elan +2. It was bored .040 over and fitted with Carillo pistons. Receipts for all work are available. Ceramic coated headers and stainless muffler are on the car. Runs cool with flex fan and cleaned and pressure tested radiator.
GEARBOX: Original four-speed Lotus box. Shifts nicely with the “electric switch” precision associated with these cars. Clutch operates as it should, without chatter or slip. It was inspected when the engine was rebuilt.
ELECTRICAL: All gauges, switches, lights, horn, signals, flasher, wipers, washer, 2-speed fan, in proper operating condition. Newer battery and alternator hold a proper charge. No starting issues.
CHASSIS: Original Lotus chassis is straight and rust free. Shock towers are clean and solid. The front crossmember appears to be solid and holds vacuum. There are no known issues.
DIFFERENTIAL and DRIVETRAIN, STEERING and SUSPENSION: Front and rear suspension rebuilt with all bushings and hardware replaced along with ball joints and tie rods. Famous Lotus light and quick steering, ride and handling.
WHEELS and TIRES: Four new T rated 155×13 radials. Four Panasport alloy “knock-on” type wheels with centers painted to match the bumpers. Spare steel wheel and tire in trunk.
BRAKES: Excellent pedal pressure and feel. No pulling. Handbrake and warning light operating properly. Note that there is no “Sovy can”, so the low fluid light is not operational.
